B. Túc từ gián tiếp & túc từ trực tiếp trong tiếng Anh
Khi sử dụng túc từ ta cũng cần phân biệt giữa túc từ trực tiếp (direct object) và túc từ gián tiếp (indirect object).
Xét câu này: Tôi viết một bức thư cho mẹ tôi.
Ở đây có đến hai đối tượng chịu tác động của hành động viết là bức thư và mẹ tôi. Trong trường hợp này bức thư là túc từ trực tiếp, mẹ tôi là túc từ gián tiếp. Thông thường các túc từ gián tiếp có to đi trước. Câu trên sẽ được viết trong tiếng Anh như sau:
- I write a letter to my mother.
Nói chung, khi túc từ gián tiếp không đi ngay sau động từ thì phải có to dẫn trước. Ngược lại không cần phải thêm to. Câu trên có thể viết theo cách khác như sau:
